December 27, 2022 – The First Incident

It was a cold, quiet evening when I arrived at the house to spend time with my son, Ethan. We had planned a movie outing, but the chosen film didn’t spark much interest in him. Instead, Ethan suggested we play on his new gaming console at the house. It felt like a simple, innocent shift in plans, but it quickly became a flashpoint for conflict.

When I informed Maya, his mother, about the change in plans, she grew agitated. Her voice was sharp and commanding as she insisted that I was being inconsistent and disrespectful. Before I could process the escalating tension, she threatened to involve the authorities if I didn’t leave immediately after our time together.

Determined to shield Ethan from the brewing storm, I chose to stay calm. I reassured him that everything was fine, and for a short time, we played games together, laughing and bonding like nothing else mattered. But the atmosphere was heavy, and the presence of Maya’s boyfriend, silent and distant in the background, only deepened the unease.

As we wrapped up our time together, I decided it was best to leave to avoid further escalation. On the drive back, Ethan seemed unusually quiet, as if sensing the invisible lines being drawn around him. That night marked the first time I realized how fragile our family dynamic had become and how my role as a father would be tested in ways I had never imagined.
